Reptile & Amphibian Surveys
An Extended Phase 1 Ecology Survey will highlight the need for reptile and/or amphibian surveys if their presence is found on site or suitable habitat to accommodate them is identified.
All British reptiles are protected by British law, making it an offence to deliberately kill or injure them.
All British amphibians receive limited protection under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (as amended), making it illegal to sell or trade them. The Great Crested Newt and Natterjack Toad are fully protected under UK and European law. It is an offence to deliberately capture, injure, kill or disturb either species; intentionally or recklessly obstruct access to any structure/place used for shelter or protection, or damage or destroy a breeding site or resting place.
If a development on a site is likely to significantly impact on reptile or amphibian populations then surveys for these species could be required by planners. Our services include reptile and amphibian surveys and if required, translocation and mitigation works. We will work closely with you to develop suitable mitigation measures, ensuring all actions are legal and appropriate.
